CRIP CAMP: A Disability Revolution
On the heels of Woodstock, a group of teen campers are inspired to join the fight for disability civil rights. The documentary explores the experiences of teenagers with disabilities at Camp Jened, a summer camp in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The campers' bonds and experiences at Jened transformed their lives and ignited the disability rights movement in the United States. CRIP CAMP showcases Camp Jened as a "loose, free-spirited camp designed for teens with disabilities" where campers could engage in uninhibited physical activities, uncensored storytelling, self-governance, mutual caretaking, real friendships, and fun. As the campers grew older, many moved to Berkeley, California, where they became activists and realized that disruption and unity could secure life-changing accessibility for millions.
