MOVIE
Children of a Lesser God
A film about the uplifting love story of James Leeds, an idealistic special education teacher, and a headstrong deaf girl named Sarah. At first, Leeds sees Sarah as a teaching challenge. But soon, their teacher/student relationship blossoms into a love so passionate it shatters the barrier of silence that keeps them apart.

Its hard to believe that it's been more than 40 years since the first time I saw Children of a Lesser God as a play in Minneapolis as part of an interpreter training class I was taking the summer of 1982. It's good to look back and see we've come a long way in the audism battle and the acceptance of ASL and deaf culture and at the same time we've still got a long way to go in terms of gainful employment of deaf people in the work place. I appreciate this service delivery model of earning CEUS as it's much more meaningful than attending a conference.

Children of a Lesser God
I cannot believe it has been over 40 years since this movie came out. It was interesting to watch it again decades later. I had a more visceral reaction the second time because of all the changes that have occurred since that time…the Deaf President Now movement, more representation of Deaf people in various fields, including television and the movies (with still more needed), and the stand Deaf people have taken in support of their language, identify, and culture. I enjoyed the exercise of looking back on this film with a more refined perspective and also the format of being able to view a movie for CEU’s. While it still takes a lot of time, because I take notes during the movie, it’s nice to see the story portrayed by actors rather than always doing a workshop or reading a book. It is nice to have CEU format choices to mix it up once in a while. Strongly recommend.

Great course options!
It’s nice to be able to do things other than just watch training videos for CEUs.
